Appologies! Yes its been many moons since my last post. And what is my excuse? Well…

…I got married in Australia – and as an expat in Hong Kong that was a LOT of work to organise…

…then I quit my job of 3 years, so lots of loose ends to ne tidied up…

…and last but not least – have just embarked on a 4-month honeymoon across Europe with the new husband!!!

The WordPress Ap is now on our iphone so let’s see how I go with blogging about my international crafty adventures!

First up – last week in London I spent a quick spin at the V&A (Victoria and Albert museum). I found a yummy fabric square and handcrafted ceramic button! Hmmm my backpack is going to get very full at this rate.

I’ll try to post for every city, and we’re moving through each place about every 4 days…so that’s lots of posts coming right up.

Here’s an update to my earlier posts about pink/grey/white (crazy) 70s yarn (older than me) and the 70s crochet influence hitting the catwalks…

Looks like I’m not the only one with crazy yarn in their stash, Etoile Isabel Marant’s Ritchi sweater would match my beanie nicely

Perhaps a sweater is too much for the changing Hong Kong weather and you’d prefer Tibi’s Crochet dress

…matched with Aldo’s super cute crochet peeptoe platform T-Bars.

Imagine my joy when heading out to lunch a few weeks ago I discovered a yarn shop only 2 blocks from my work!

My poor friend was almost in histerics watching me practically cartwheel down the street.

Mui Tong – 1st Floor, 17 Jervois Street, Central, Hong Kong

Bound up the stairs and into this delightful little shop, bursting with yarn goodies. Neatly displayed yarn (in plastic of course) lines the 3 walls, floor to ceiling, but is easily accessable. A centre display homes more lovely wool and a vast selection of Japanese and Chinese knitting/crochet pattern magazines. The 4th wall is covered in hooks, needles and accessories galore. Bamboo, plastic and metal. From yarns to magazines to accessories – the variety is excellent. Little english is spoken by the owners but they’re very helpful (almost a little too much – a sweet but serious gentleman followed me around the store on both my visits…and given it’s not that big a store I felt a little stalked!).

I purchased:

~ Filature DiĀ  Crosa ‘Zara Plus’ Merino wool in white (crocheting a soft and chunky neck warmer)

~ Clover circular knitting needles in size 5 and 8 (plans for fingerless gloves)

~ Clover ‘AquaMode’ crochet hook in size 8 (it’s apple-green plastic! perfect for crocheting on the airplane!)

I think they’re going to get to know me pretty well!

Opening hours: Monday to Saturday, 11am to 7pm (not 100% sure if this is correct, I think that’s what they said)

Stock:

Yarn – Filature Di Crosa, Missoni, Panda, Cleckheaton; Cottons, Pure Wool, Blends (Lots of gorgeous Italian wools), all textures and widths and plenty of yarn suitable for baby items

Needles/Hooks: Clover; bamboo, metal and plastic

Prices: All items are clearly priced and there appears to be a bargain (but I couldn’t work out the prices)

Niseko, Japan

Six days in Japan just wasn’t enough. The weather was gorgeous… …perfect for ski… …and apres ski. And while Niseko is so full of Australians that I almost felt like a local, it’s still very much Japan. Mocha tastes better when it’s -5c outside. I’m in love.

If someone can just tell me where I can purchase these in HK I’ll be in heaven…

roasty toasty

In only 48 hours I’m off for my annual ski trip – 3rd year in a row to Japan! It’s only a quick 4 hour flight from Hong Kong, plus a fascinating country to visit with perfect snow…what more can you ask for? These last few months I’ve really been getting into crochet (sooo much [...]

Spring/Summer sewing - New Look

The sewing collections for New Look are in for Spring/Summer 2011. I hauled my sewing machine up from Melbourne after the last trip home but really haven’t had the time to sew as much as I would want. What a surprise :) Anyway, there’s some cute and versatile patterns I’d really like to whip up [...]
